Mamá Art Cafe along with the San Pancho Art Collective are pleased to present “An Excursion to Frisco” a solo showcase of new drawings and paintings by artist Max Allbee. This new series takes the viewer back to the turn of the 20th century with illustrations that capture monumental yet often forgotten histories of San Francisco’s teen ages. In Allbee’s work you will find fantastically detailed sumi ink and water colored memories of the gritty rubble and ashes of 1906, to the beautifully dramatic Panama Pacific International Exposition that shadowed over the Golden Gate. The works can be seen from
April 6th through May 4th at the Excelsior district’s art venue since 2004, Mamá Art Cafe.
Join us for the reception with live music April 19th 7-10pm, 4754 Mission st. San Francisco, CA 94112
You may have seen Allbee’s mural “Excelsior Portal”, the elongated banners of pattern and color streaming the Mission street overpass above highway 280, or his Lilac alley mural done with the San Pancho Art Collective for Mission Pie. This San Francisco born artist’s new work is a stripped down version of the brightly colorful and boldly painted large murals. In “An Excursion to Frisco” Max takes his brush off the wall, diving into small sepia toned and simple black and white imagery, evoking stained and imperfect visions much like Victorian era photographs.
